The sun had just tucked behind the trees.  I was able to get a nice glow on their skin.

We were able to sneak out from cover for just a minute.  It was raining the whole time =(  But, I love these shots.  Raining = nobody walking around = great pictures!

We headed down to Penn Station.  This is another one of my “bad weather” options.  Between Feb and April is really the only time I can shoot here.

Clayton and Jaclyn did such a good job and remained in such good spirits even with the rain.  They have an amazing wedding venue and I am so very anxious to be photographing them again in June!

I have been scheduling almost ALL of my sessions for 530pm or later because of how sunny it has been.  The sun was setting as we began shooting at Mellon Park.  It was just beautiful!

Let me explain this one- ha ha.  We were in the middle of shooting and this cute dog wanted to make a cameo.  He didn’t really come to any of us, he just wanted to be in front of the camera.  I thought it was the funniest thing.

So, I went on ETSY and tried NOT to go overboard buying some cute props for the engagement sessions.  I like this one.

We definitely wanted to get a shot with the Cathedral.  I always like this view.  I actually don’t mind the sun shining right on them.

The “LOVE” banner.  It was a little windy- so catching that thing settled was tough. =)

These doors are excellent for pictures.  Fortunately, I was able to get a few shots before people started walking in and out.

I loved Jenn’s tattoo.  I had to get a picture.  Sometimes, I feel that when you cut out parts of the body and feature other parts- there’s so much more of a story being told =)  Love this pic.

Love love love this.  I knew this was going to be black and white when I was taking it.  I love how timeless this is!  Or how it could be anywhere.

Ricky and Jenn did a super good job!  I am excited for their wedding later this season!

I had been waiting to shoot Joe and Jodi for their e-session.  I had met with Jodi months ago and she is just gorgeous!  When I met with her and Joe on the day of the shoot I was blown away by how sweet and beautiful they both were.  Their faces along with flowering trees made my photographic day =)

I don’t know if you’ve noticed… but I am a BIG fan of shooting into the sun.  I really enjoy the flare, color and just all over look of the distortion from the lens.  Oh, and Joe’s eyes are mesmerizing!  Did I mention that?  =)

One fo my favorites!!!  How awesome is this cobblestone road?  This is a very cute pic of the two.

I love the vastness of the scene, yet the mothers concentration on her baby belly.

It was SO windy that while the images seem flowing and effortless, we actually had to brace ourselves from whipping gusts.

Kirstin totally pulled this one off all by herself!  She definitely brought it!  I love her eyes!

As much as I love my couples to strike a pose, “No Smile!” (ha ha- that’s what I tell them), I love to capture the moment.  A real, genuine moment.

Kirstin and Dan did such a good job and I had a great time with them.  I am fully looking forward to their wedding in June =)

Kelly had really wanted to get a picture on Mt. Washington.  When we got there, it almost disappeared.  I was able to get just a faint shadow of the buildings.

I don’t often see closed toed as bridal shoes.  But, I loved these.

The decor at the Omni William Penn is to die for.  It definitely makes my job easier when I have location opportunities like this.

The chapel had such amazing natural light!  I didn’t have to use a flash at all.  This enables much greater feeling a natural.

Who doesn’t love a groomsmen jumping picture?  Getting your wedding party to jump is great fun and puts everyone in such a great mood.

How lucky am I that it was actually snowing during onsite shooting?  Granted it was 2 degrees, but nonetheless, it was awesome.

Their reception decor was breathtaking.  Very elegant.

I had an amazing day with Kelly and Tom.  I am so pleased to have had the chance to meet them and work with them.  I thank them very much for choosing Amber Marie Photography.

This was my first time meeting with Kelly and Tom and they were SO much fun.  They had so much energy and charisma that it didn’t matter where we were- the images focus on them.  And, that’s exactly what I had envisioned for this shoot.  I wanted to keep it natural and energetic.  I love all of these images.

When Tom and Kelly bought this house they discovered that a wonderful couple had spent their entire life here.  Left behind was a photograph of the couple.  Tom requested that we replicate the image with him and Kelly.  I think we did a good job.  Photo on the right.

It was so easy to get natural images of these two.  They laughed and joked the whole time.  It was so much fun =)

Great Portrait shot!

We began at PPG Place.  Krista had wanted to get some of her and Ryan ice skating.  GREAT IDEA!  When we arrived, to our surprise the place was super packed.  It was a little challenging but I managed to get some cool shots of them.  Next on the list was a coffee shop.  Krista and Ryan had a vision of them sitting in a quiet coffee shop drinking coffee while Ryan played the guitar.  Again, GREAT IDEA.  When we arrived at the shop it was packed again.  That didn’t stop us though.  We ventured to the outside seating area.  I love these shots.  I am glad that we decided to stay.  Our last stop was the Hot Metal Bridge.  I don’t have the chance to do too many engagement shoots here- so I was excited about this.  I think the shots turned out great.

Even though it was freezing and poor Ryan was sick and coughing (I felt guilty about keeping him outside) I am absolutely thrilled with the images.  I had a great time with Krista and Ryan and I can’t wait until their wedding next season.

Below are some of my favorites from the shoot.  Bryan and Laura did a fantastic job and I am incredibly excited to photograph them again on their wedding day next year.

I began with Danielle and the girls at the new Courtyard Marriott Settlers Ridge.  This is a very nice place.  There was ample room to get some great shots.  Everything was definitely going my way with these images.  I am super pleased with how everything pre-ceremony turned out.

The Calvary United Methodist Church is a GORGEOUS church located on the North Side.  I have never had the pleasure of photographing here and was in total awe when I arrived.  The inside and outside are so lovely, that we nixed our initial plan and decided to stay there to photograph after the ceremony. (P.S. I LOVE the picture of the glowing flower girls at the alter.  It just so happened that the sun was coming through the stained glass windows and was shining only on them.  LOVE IT.)

The rest of the day was spectacular and I am still amazed with the images that I have captured.  Thanks so much to Keith and Danielle for selecting Amber Marie Photography.

This was my second time seeing, but first time formally meeting with the couple.  I had photographed a family member a few years ago and both Melissa and Bryce were at the wedding.  It was great spending some time with them and I am very excited for their wedding next season.  Below are some of my faves from the session.

The room where Alycia was getting ready was very dark and dramatic.  I used that to my advantage and got some pretty cool shots.  Outside of the studio is where I photographed Jamil and the groomsmen.

The ceremony itself wasn’t until the evening- so myself and the wedding party travelled around the city to get some onsite images.

The entire day was great and I captured a lot of great stuff Alycia and Jamil.  Thanks again for selecting Amber Marie Photography.

As we were throwing around location ideas Laila mentioned that her first date with Joel was at the UNO Pizzeria at the Waterfront.  I thought this would be a fun place to shoot at since it had character.  We got some fun shots on the outside- and then travelled inside as well.

I have been shooting at Mellon Park a lot lately, BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME, and Laila stated she wanted to go there as well.  I am glad that we did.  There was a section where there were leaves all over the ground and I had the couple sit there.  It was perfect.

We then made our way to Bigelow Blvd overlook.  There was a HUGE tree with all of it’s bright yellow leaves still intact.  This was amazing.  I was telling Laila that these were such special pictures because probably by that time tomorrow all the leaves would have fallen.

Joel being such a sports fan we ended up at Heinz Stadium.  I love the images here- so fun.

I am beyond excited for their wedding next year.  I know that we will get some spectacular images- and I can’t wait to hang out with them again, too =)

I am so extremely pleased with the images that I was able to capture on their day.  I always say that it’s a team effort between myself and the couple to produce amazing photography.  Alex and Jimmy did a fantastic job and had a smile on their faces the entire time- even if we did get rained on a bit =))))

The fact that we had an opportunity to walk around Phipps was perfect.  I could never have picked a more perfect place to photograph this couple than a whimsical, breathtaking botanical garden.  It suited them well =)

The time that I spent with Alex and Jimmy, and the images that I was able to capture have made me a better person and a better photographer.  I thank them for everything and for choosing Amber Marie Photography.

Favorite (maybe even ever =)

Sassin’ it up.  I love when the bridesmaids are sassy =)  It’s such a fun image.

This image turned out great.  The lighting of the center is so vibrant.

Truly a work of art this image is.  I am dedicated to providing all of my clients with genuine, artistic imagery.

I joked that Nate and Lisa must be early birds because our session was pretty early (for an engagement shoot) and, our initial meeting was early too.  But, it was nice to try out a Friday AM shoot.  Recently, my sessions have been in the evening and at dusk.  So, I was excited about the challenge of a morning shoot.

Most of the session was under a blanket of clouds- which I couldn’t prefer more.  But, just at the end, when we were at the pier the sun started to peak out.  The light was just like a sunrise.  It was amazing.  I told them that I was really happy that we started so early because if the sun had been out the entire time the ability to get balanced images would be a bit tougher.

All in all I love the images.  Nate and Lisa did such a great job and we had a lot of fun!  I cannot wait for their wedding next season =)

Love this pic!  How perfect is the light?

I have become such a big fan of shooting directly into the sun.  I like the lens flare and also how it burns parts of the image.

What a location!  This has to be the best this spot looks all year.  The red bushes are so vivid.

Ha ha- I made them walk in the middle of a swarm of geese.  The geese didn’t mind much… fortunately.  I was having flashes of, “When Good Animals Go Bad!”  Ha Ha.

I had such a pleasure spending the afternoon with them and I couldn’t be happier with the images.  I am pleased with the different perspectives I was able to capture at such a familiar site.  I try to relay this to all of my clients- just because you’ve seen pictures done at a specific location, or “everyone shoots at a certain spot,” that should not discourage you from wanting to shoot there.  Some locations are popular for a reason- You get GREAT pictures =)  With that being said- I love Hartwood Acres =)  Enjoy!

LaRoche was windy and sunny.  The weather brought so much energy that it livened the whole shoot up.  Shannon did fabulous.  I always tell my girls to not be afraid to “Strike It!”  Ha ha!  All of us women have a little sass

I love the little things that make each of these close-up shot personal.  The way that each couple executes this is amazing.  Here- Brad has his eyes slightly open.

Everyone was so full of energy and I had an amazing time.  As I promised, I am going to list the quote of the wedding day given by Shannon’s sister Chelsea, “Let’s talk about me for a minute… how’s my weave?”  That has to be the funniest thing I have ever heard at a wedding.  It was a great time.  Thanks again, Shannon and Brad, for choosing Amber Marie Photography.

The wind was doing such wonderful things with Ashton’s beautiful, long hair.  Ha ha- most of the time it was in the way- but I waited eagerly for the right burst to brush it away.

I love to get right in my clients faces- Ha ha.  I usually wait about a half hour into the session to do this.  I want them to get a little warmed up first.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t think engagement pictures need to always be about huge smiles and faces towards the camera.  There’s something about L.B.’s eyes and the way Ashton is “surrendering” herself to him.  If feel like this image convey’s more of an emotion of love than if they were to just be looking at the camera and smiling.

 We ended the session at this cool warehouse that L.B. used to work at.  It was totally unplanned, but I am absolutely excited about the images here.  It was such a new place to shoot at for me, that I was like a kid in a candy store.  PLUS- the evening light was coming in…….

I told you there would be more evening light pictures.  I mean, can you beat that image?

I had such an amazing afternoon with them and I cannot wait until their wedding in September.

I love the lens flare on this image.  Also, the bright outline of the couple, yet the softness of the rest of the image is a great contrast.

So, Patrick and Miranda arrived to the shoot with tons of great props!  I was so excited.  I always encourage my couples to bring props.

I am very, very pleased that I am seeing much more cake-smashing lately.  It seems like it was on a hiatus for the past few years.

This is one of my favorite shots from the day.  Dan actually pointed out this location as we were walking.  Good eye!

I thought this was such a cute shot with the bikes.  I actually  picked one up and, surprisingly, they are very, very light.

Such a sweet moment.  I really enjoy capturing these sort of moments during the engagement shoots.  I feel like it relays a much more natural feel.

The innocence and candidness of this image is mesmerizing.  This is what I aim for!

The getting ready shots are some of my favorites.  Noel has such character that it was so much fun shooting her.  I finally got to meet her soon to be hubby, Jim at the ceremony.  Of course he was just as cool.

After the ceremony I suggested shooting right outside of St Pauls.  There is such a nice little set up on the side of the church that is often overlooked.  I am so pleased with some of the images that I will definitely be using this area in the future.

The evening wrapped up at St Nicks- an boy was it a party.  I think Noel danced the most that I ever saw a bride dance.  It was awesome.

I had gone behind the scenes at the church to get some pre-ceremony shots.  The videographer gave Jim this microphone to do an interview.  He was just standing there with it.  I thought it was so odd and quite charming.  I had to take a picture.

Great groomsmen shot.  Look at the ring bearer.  He did awesome!

The candidness of these images gives me chills.  I love catching these moments.  That’s what I do this for!

The reception was held at the Renaissance Hotel, Downtown. There was a Steeler Game going on, but we didn’t let that stop us from getting some neat bridge pictures. I kinda liked having the crowd in some of the images.

This is one of my favorites.  The first dance is such an intimate and powerful moment.  I love catching it so candidly.  It’s like no one else is there.

I never interrupt the brides to get these mirror shots.  It’s about being in the right place at the right time.

I always love catching the bride and groom walking away from the camera.  The images are so natural.

After the ceremony we photographed at the reception site; Stonebridge Farm Nursery. What a neat location. This was my first outdoor reception of the season, so I was definitely excited. The light at the time was beautiful so we jumped right into pictures. I am really happy with all of the images that I captured and Todd and Julie did great. I am seeing brides step outside of the box more and more with their shoe selection.  I absolutely love it.

How awesome is this limo pic?!?!?

This was such an emotional moment.  Again, this is all about being attentive and being in the right place at the right time.

One of my all time favorite “groom at the altar” pictures.  

Joe is an avid biker- so I always urge couple to incorporate “props” from their lives to personalize their pictures.

It seems that now-a-days brides give a stern warning to their grooms about cake smashing.  It’s nice to see the tradition still alive with some couples =)

The ceremony was absolutely mesmerizing.  The exchanging of the rings was beautiful.

After photographing some at the church we wanted to get some shots at the carousel in Oakland.  Fortunately, Marios is smooth talking and actually got permission for the trolley (and myself) to drive through the set.  It was so cool!  I don’t think they were filming at the time, but if in the movie you see a Molly’s Trolley that was us!!!!

I’ve heard good toasts and I’ve heard bad toasts.  Most of the good toasts are heartfelt and actually cause you to cry a little.  I’ve never heard a toast like Julia’s sister, Catherine gave.  It was one of the most amazing things that I have ever witnessed.  She rapped the toast to the “Fresh Prince of Bellaire” intro.  I really hope that someone got that on tape!!!

The ceremony was great! The church was well lit inside, which never happens I was able to get some really good shots of the couple without using flash.

The reception was held at my favorite venue, Montour Heights Country Club. Even though I was here a few weeks ago I was just as excited to take pictures. Man, I would bet someone that they couldn’t take a bad picture at this site. I LOVE IT! Corey and Denae did amazing and followed direction very well.

The grounds to the Atrium lent itself to many great pictures of the couple. It was nice to have everything at one location so we didn’t have to worry about time restrictions.

We began shooting at her parents house which had awesome natural light.  After the ceremony we returned to shoot around the grounds by her house.  She had a neighbor who had an awesome pond.  I thought these shots turned out so romantic.

We finished with shooting in the barn.  I definitely had to take advantage of the fact that there was a barn around.  It’s not every day that I have the opportunity to shoot in one =)

A couple weeks later we scheduled the shoot for the evening and it was awesome. We started in the South Side and then headed to the Strip District. The images are amazing and I am so happy that we decided to do this. I urge all brides to consider this option if there are concerns about time limitations.

After the ceremony we headed down to my neck of the woods to Triangle Park in Sewickley. I listed this location as one of the Places to take Wedding Pictures in Pittsburgh.  This is such a nice little place to photograph.  Here, too, is a bridge and lot’s of tree’s.  I didn’t have a problem at all getting some great images.

The reception ensued at the Wendell Inn in Baldwin.  The place was packed with people who wanted to have fun.  I noticed this contraption kept making it’s appearance; a ski with holes for shot glasses.  I have never seen anything like this, but thought it was pretty cool for pictures.  I would say that ski was the star of the show.

Brianna and the bridesmaids started at the nail salon. It was really neat to be able to photograph these sort of images. It’s always fun to capture moments like these. A few hours later I met back up with the girls at Brianna’s. Everyone looked amazing.

After the ceremony we headed to Montour Heights Country Club- my BFF venue Right away we started snapping pics. This place is a photographers dream. I don’t think I could ever run out of picture idea’s here. I love it!!!

Both Matt and Missy are dentists. Missy is just finishing up school, so we had the chance to get some pictures in the dentist chair. THIS WAS GREAT!!! They brought props and got all suited up. I love this stuff. These shots really added to the overall collection.

Our last stop was Mellon Park. What a beautiful place. I had never been here before. I am so happy that they showed me this location. This place is timeless and will become my essential stop for future engagement sessions.

Matt and Cori elected to have all of their portraits done before the ceremony. We shot in Oakland and then at the Hot Metal Bridge. I am totally in love with the images I was able to capture.

After we were through we headed down to the Strip District. This is the first time I had done an e-session here. I, myself, dig urban landscapes. I feel that it is such a strong contrast against the lightness and love of a couple, that there is no way that it can’t look great. I found this location under a bridge that I fell in love with immediately. Granted, it was URBAN- ha ha! I think the images are sensational, and Nick and Jessica did a great job of becoming apart of the look. We also took a few pictures on Penn Ave which turned out AMAZING. After this session I have become a HUGE fan of Strip District E-session. I urge all upcoming brides to speak with me about this being a possible location!!!

I had a great time and I am looking forward to their wedding in September =)

We began shooting immediately upon arrival; fully taking advantage of the wonderful grounds at Nemacolin. Since their ceremony wasn’t until the evening, Eric and Sahar elected to take their photograph’s beforehand. This worked out great! We were able to get some really great shot’s without a huge time restraint. My favorite was photographing in the Tea Room at the Chateau. What a gorgeous place!

Eric and Sahar’s ceremony and reception were lovely. There was a lot of dancing and a henna ceremony. The whole day was magical and I am so very thankful that they chose me to be a part of it =)

The reception was also held at Bella Serra, which gave us some time to photograph afterwards. I got some pretty cute shots of Amanda and Brian. Amanda had some signs to hold up for the photographs. I think this is a pretty clever idea. Any sort of text or props only contribute to the overall look of the session. I encourage all of my brides to look into this.

The remainder of the evening was a blast.

Amanda and Brian have elected to have a post-wedding shoot in a week or two. We will be able to go around the city and do a more in depth wedding photography session. I am super looking forward to this and I will post the images when they are captured =)

Finally it had arrived!!! I knocked on Halley’s door and she answered with her bridesmaids in the background. Immediately I began taking pictures of her amazing wedding dress. “They’re like flowers,” I always say, “how can you ever pick?” Halley’s dress was GORGEOUS!!!!

After photographing the details the bride was ready to get dressed. It went off without a hitch. Her bridesmaids were adorable, Jaclyn sighed a breath of relief after buttoning her up =)

The ceremony was beautiful and the choir on the balcony were amazing.

We photographed at Baywood in Moon Township. It had such a lovely pond with lily pads. Yes, lily pads!!!! It was right out of a fairytale. The reception was held at The Omni William Penn where my favorite DJ, Pittsburgh Dj Company, was blowing it up.  Dean Rocks!!!

After the beautiful ceremony, we photographed down on the North Shore by the Mister Rogers Statue.  I have never shot at this over look before, but found it to be a very clear and direct view.   Us photographers can count on one hand how many of those we have in the city- ha ha

I had a wonderful day and I am very grateful to have had this opportunity!  Thanks again Jill & TJ!!!!

We started shooting at The Columns in Oakland.  We also shot at the carousel.  It’s really convenient that so many things are in one location.  It’s definitely a photographers dream =)  After Oakland we went to Station Square.  I wanted to get some shots of them on the overlook, but unfortunately, it wasn’t open for the season yet… if that makes sense- ha ha.  I suggested to Tara that we go to South Side because she had wanted to photograph on train tracks.  I am so glad that we did because shortly after arriving a train came through.  I think these shots turned out awesome.

Our last stop was West Park in the North Side.  Even though there was no water in the pond I still adore the images.

Tara and Luchin will be getting married in Punta Cana next year, but I look forward to having the opportunity to work with them again.

We finished up and headed off to Hartwood Acres.  I didn’t even twist their arm for this location, ha ha!!!!  They loved the site.  And as they should, it is gorgeous no matter what time of year, rain or shine, sleet or snow  I got some fantastic images of the both of them here.  I am so excited about it.  Allison mentioned a shot that she had seen in another shoot of a couple in a tree on a limb.  We went to that tree and Allison climbed right up without batting an eyelash.  This chick is a TROOPER! Which I am gad that she is, because the pics came out sensational.

Joe and Allison had one more surprise for me.  They let me in on a little secret— they LOVE ice cream!!! AND, we just so happened to pass a parlor right down the road.  I was ecstatic.  I have been trying to bring the idea of something non-traditional into my engagement shoots.  They ordered a banana split and a milkshake.  They were so much fun with it and made my job easy.  They did great!

I absolutely appreciate everything that Joe and Allison gave me during their shoot and I CANNOT wait until their wedding in August!!!

I recently had the pleasure of attending and photographing the wedding of Joe and Colleen Brasacchio.  It was a gorgeous day and Colleen looked fantastic.  They got married at one of my favorite churches, St . Bernards, in Mt. Lebanon.   After the ceremony we headed down to the South Side Works to shoot on the Hot Metal Bridge.  Colleen had the greatest idea to go down to the Hofbrauhaus to do “shotski’s.”  Ha ha… she’s so fun- I love her.  We got some great pics there.

After shooting we set off to the reception being held at the City Center Marriott.  This is a lovely venue and I recommend it.

I had a wonderful 1st wedding of the season and I thank Joe & Colleen for choosing me to be their wedding photographer.

With that being said, here are some of my favorite spots in Pittsburgh to shoot at:

This first shot was killer.  I think Theresa will love it.  I could tell that she was a little unsure as to what the actual image would look like compared to what they were doing.  I always try to put my clients at ease by explaining my technique and the actual “visions” that I have.  Ha Ha… there I go again with my “visions.” =)

The next couple of images I love as well.  I love these vines.  Have I said that before?  I don’t know, vines and ivy are just like the cherry on the top for any photograph.  You can’t go wrong.  As you can see below I able to get romantic images as well as fun ones of the couple laughing.  The ivy enhances both =)

Call me Amber 50mm.  For most of you who have no idea what I’m talking about I am speaking of my 50mm fixed lens.  This means that I cannot zoom.  Most lenses that wedding photographers use, and perhaps photographers in general, allow zoom.  This is totally beneficial and almost essential to capture the wedding in a photojournalistic way.  Though the lenses that we use are darn expensive and professional there is a difference between fixed and zoom.  Fixed lenses do not cause distortion around the edge of the frame.  Have you ever seen a picture and noticed the image at the edge is bowed or blurry?  This is why.  Also, the images tend to be sharper when the lens is fixed.  This is because the lens is less complicated and there is less room for error.  Now, I hope you enjoyed my Lenses 101 tutorial- HA HA.  I brought this all up because the next few images are shot with my 50mm.  Fixed lenses are really prime for close-up portrait shots.

After getting so close to them with my camera Brandon and Theresa definitely got more comfortable with the shoot.  I tend to use a lot of adjective when I shoot.  I’ll say, “Awesome!” “Gorgeous!” “Amazing!”  I can imagine how funny it must be to hear me.  Brandon picked up on it and we had a laugh about it.  During one of the poses he said, “This is intense.”  So I started using, “Intense!”  Ha Ha!  It was a good time.

Now it was snowball fight time!!!!  Brandon was excited!  I had them do a couple of mock stances and throws and then I let them unleash.  I told Theresa that I wanted her to nail Brandon and boy did she.  I am super stoked about getting these action shots.  I LOVE THEM!

Their wedding day was perfect.  Slightly overcast and cool.  The ceremony was beautiful.  The chorus consisted of their family.  And Dan’s sister played the trumpet.  It was one of the first times I had seen so many family members incorporated into the service.

The reception was held at Rolling Acres Golf Club  in the Timberhouse.  The landscape was beautiful, as you imagine it would be this time of year.  We got some magnificent shots right outside of the building.  It was great!  Inside of the Timberhouse was super comfortable and cosy.  It is built of logs and wood and cast a very nice glow.  The reception ensued and I noticed that Carrie and Dan had a pie buffet.  This was very cool.  Every kind of pie imaginable.  I heart pie- so I was biased to this idea =)

All of those thoughts led me to some photo’s that I took at the zoo with my point and shoot.  The settings were on program.  I feel like this is a perfect example that the camera doesn’t make the photographer— the photographer makes the photographer.  I love these images and I thought I would share with all of my readers =)

Sometimes (I believe all of the time) it’s about being in the right place at the right time.  As I said before, I am a firm believer that to get a good image everything must be aligned.  When I capture images like this I feel very thankful that I was able to be APART of it.  Apart of everything that was aligned to capture these.  I just happened to look into the water and saw this.  Fortunately, I had a camera with me.  I don’t tend to carry along my big rig when I go to the zoo.  So, I hope you enjoy.

I love how soft and gentle these images are.  They definitely did a great job!

Would you believe that Denae carries Corey on her back like this often?!?!?  How funny is that.  I love it!  What a tough chick!!!

I love lens flare.  It’s funny how something like lens flare used to be frowned upon for a professional photographer, when now I think it enhances the image.  I absolutely love when the lens or camera takes part in the overall image.

The light coming through this gazebo was to die for.  I love how it caused a natural highlight around the figure.

The guys popped over for a bit so I could take some shots of them before the ceremony.  Lou was awesome.  I didn’t even have to tell him to change positions or look here or there.  He was going through the moves.  It was great.  Usually the grooms would rather NOT be getting their picture taken- ha ha =)

Soon after the guys split so Jess could get dressed.  I took her in the backyard and took some photo’s of her on the bench that Lou had proposed to her on.  It was important for them to incorporate that into the images.  And, check out the picture of Jess’s tattoo.  Lou designed it for her.  If you look closely you can see that it’s all letters.  It’s Jess’s maiden name.  How cool is that?!?

The ceremony was very nice and emotional.  Fortunately, the church was right across from a park in the North Side.  After pictures in the church we headed over there for some bridal party shots.  These groomsmen were definitely in the spirit.  Take a look at some of them posing.  Hilarious.  The bridemaids were fabulous as usual =)

The reception was help at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association.  Definitely one of my favorite venues.

I began shooting at the hotel and was able to get some great shots of Shawna.  Looking back through all of my images I noticed that I really got a lot of images of her before the ceremony.  I always try to get as many as possible, but these ones, I think, turned out spectacular.

The ceremony was held at St. Mary’s of the Mount.  This is a very nice church and you can’t beat the fact that you have the overlook right across the street.  After we did some shooting there we started off towards the reception at The Circuit Center in the Southside Works area.  This is the first time I shot there and it’s HUGE!!!  I would definitely recommend this venue for anyone who is having a large guest count.  There is plenty of room to move around.

I had a great day of photographing with Eric and Shawna and their wedding party.  I thank you guys again for choosing me!!!

I had a fantastic shoot with them.  They were so much fun and full of energy.  I’m always a little concerned with the guys because usually a photo shoot isn’t on their top priority list of things to do, but Devin was great.  By the end he was dipping Brianna, kissing her on the forehead, lifting her up — all without me telling him to do so.

I think the images turned out fantastic and are a true reflection of the dynamic of the two.  I cannot wait for their wedding day!!!

I arrived at their house and began shooting as Jayme was getting her make-up done.  As usual, I immediately asked where the dress was hanging.  She took me upstairs to Sam’s music room.  She seemed concerned with the location, but I thought it was great!!!  I wanted to incorporate something in with the dress so I grabbed the music stand and placed a book on it.  I thought the images turned out great and it was something different to use with the dress.  Afterwards, I took some of her accessories outside on her front stoop to play with the paint cracking.  I love adding in textures to whatever items I am shooting.  I’m a big fan of incorporating your environment into the shoot… whatever it may be.

After Jayme got dressed we headed out front for some solo shots.  There was one tree where the leaves were turning.  Unfortunately, most of the leaves had fallen off.  That’s the one tricky thing about fall.  The trees are not on the same schedule at all.

The ceremony was held in Oakmont and the service was beautiful.  I was able to get a great shot of the couple being announced out of the church with some edible rice thrown at them.  Once they were able to shake off we all started off towards the reception at The Magnolia Room.  Because I hadn’t had much time with the guys yet, I took them out back to an old cement bridge.  They were definitely in good spirits and I had a great time shooting with them.  They were crazy!!!  Ha Ha =)

I had a brilliant day of shooting and I am very thankful that Sam and Jayme chose me to capture their wedding day.

Al is a pilot and Christine is a flight attendant, so it was fitting that there were several planes flying overhead during their outside ceremony.  Check out their cake table.  I had never seen one decorated like this and I thought it was awesome!!!

The ceremony was soon thereafter just outside the barn.  I always love outside ceremonies.  The lighting outdoors and in a church is unparalleled.  After the service Damon and Shawna proceeded to the antique cars they arranged for transportation.  Incorporating vehicles like this makes for some really cool and romantic pictures.  We all drove down to the town of Saxonburg for some photographs.

The reception continued inside of the barn and looked gorgeous.  It’s not something you see every day – so the feeling was very magical.  The way the lighting was set up was very fantasy-like.  The party concluded with friends of the bride and groom playing in a band.  They were great and got every one in the mood to dance.

It was a great day and I thank Damon and Shawna for choosing me to photograph their wedding day =)

The day came before we knew it and I arrived at her parent’s house for pictures.  Her dress was gorgeous, her jewelry was gorgeous and she was gorgeous.  She was a lot of fun to shoot.  She knew how to strike a pose in front of my lens. =)

The ceremony was beautiful and her and Jonathan radiated love.  It was very warming to see a couple at the altar beaming from ear to hear and barely able to keep their hands off of one another.  After the service we headed right up the street to take some pictures in front of their restaurant Alla Famiglia.  It had started to rain (ok, torrentially downpour) but I was able to get some nice images with them using an umbrella.  I always love props!!!

We packed up and started off towards the reception.  Brandy and Jonathan decided to have their party at the country club.  I thought this was a great idea because Brandy was already so familiar with it and with all of it’s potential.  Boy, did she outdo herself.  It was too beautiful for words.  Tents, fabric, chandelier, flowers…

The photographers on the grounds are breathtaking.  Simply breathtaking.

The night ended with a fireworks display that Jonathan had planned as a surprise for Brandy.  It was amazing and memorable.

I had a great day and I am so happy that I got to share it with the new Mr. & Mrs Vlasic.

The day began at their house.  It was fantastic.  There was so much going on and so many opportunities to grab some really good candid, photojournalistic shots.  The Chinese Ceremony began as Mark and the boys arrived.  The bridesmaids had to keep them out until Mark offered a gift that was “worthy” enough.  Mark and the groomsmen then had to participate in several games in which they had to win in order for Mark to be allowed to see and “take” Ling.  All of the games were hilarious and they guys were good sports.  At one point they had to watch Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video and replicate the dance.  Later which they did again at the reception.  It was great.  The actual tea ceremony was amazing to watch and photograph.  I really tried to get some unique shots without disturbing anything.

After lunch Ling got ready for the ceremony at St Paul.  I’ve said it once and I will say it again, St. Paul is a great church for a wedding.  Its gigantic, it’s beautiful, and it’s air-conditioned.  The ceremony, as usual, was flawless and gorgeous.  The light was perfect and the images of Ling at the altar are breathtaking to me.  I always feel so lucky when I get a really really good image.  It may sound odd, but I don’t always feel like the images that I take are 100% mine.  What I mean is, is that the light has to be right, the darkness has to be right, the lens has to be right, the mechanics of the camera have to be right…. we all have to be aligned to get an incredible image.  It’s like a band- everyone works together to make a sound.  I work with several different elements that I usually don’t have much control over.

Mark and Ling wanted to travel to a lot of cool places for on-site shooting.  We stopped at The Hot Metal Bridge and then on 21st street in the South Side.  I love all of the photographs.  I am very pleased with how they turned out and I think I was able to utilize the sun this time- rather than always trying to run away from it =)

The reception continued on the Gateway Clipper.  This is the first time that I had an event on a boat.  It was amazing.  I think it is such a different type of venue and experience for everyone.  The bride and groom arranged a surprise for dancers to come aboard and perform.  There was a band and two dancers inside of a dragon.  It was mesmerizing to watch and absolutely beautiful.

The day way amazing and I am very happy that Mark and Ling found me and chose to include me for their wedding day.

Janice had told me prior that she wanted to incorporate swings in some of their pictures.  We were heading up to Mt. Washington anyhow, so were searched for a park.  Luckily we found one that was pretty much unoccupied.  Funny, there was a boy there skateboarding and for some reason he thought we were there taking pictures of all of the graffiti— like, we were undercover cops.  When we were leaving he ran up to us asking if we checked in the woods because there was more graffiti there.  SO!!!  If you’re the kids writing graffiti at Olympia Park you better watch out, we’re on to you!!!!!  ;)

We closed the session at Grandview Park where they wanted Nick’s dog Amber in some of the photo’s.  I had never met a dog named Amber before.  It was strange to hear, “AMBER!  SIT, AMBER!  Good girl.”  =)  Amber was awesome and did a very good job posing for pics.

I can’t wait until the wedding day!!!

I was so happy to see Jenna again on her wedding day.  She looked so beautiful when she opened the door to her family home to welcome me in.  I began shooting the dress and all of her accessories.  There was a spectacular green chair in one of the rooms.  I had to utilize that.  It’s not every day that you have something so bold to use as a backdrop to the shoes.  There was so much energy in the home that it was not hard for me at all to get some good photojournalistic shots— my favorite.

The ceremony was so pretty.  There was fabric strung everywhere.  One thing that Jenna did that I thought was a FABULOUS idea, was that she used fabric to block off the inner aisle.  She had told me that this was so that guests would not step out and be in the way of Donnie’s sight of her as she walked down the aisle.  HOW SWEET!!!!  On a photographic note**** this is a very good idea for pictures as well.  If people can’t step out into the aisle you (I) have less chance of them in my pictures when I’m trying to focus on the bride and groom.

After a lavender toss we headed to the Southpointe Golf Club.  This is a very nice venue.  Unfortunately, there was a storm a-brewing and we were only able to get a few shots outside.  Jenna’s mom had made her 10′ veil.  After photographing it blowing in the wind it literally slipped right out of Jenna’s hair.  BUT, with her cat-like reflexes she caught it!!! HA HA… I was impressed.

The most amazing image from the day is the image below with Jenna and her father at the reception.  Her father had fallen ill a couple of days before the wedding and there was a chance he wasn’t going to be able to make it.  Prayers were answered and he was able to attend.  During the father-daughter dance there was a slideshow playing of the two.  My second shooter was able to get two amazing shots that I think are breathtaking.

I had an amazing time.  I love Jenna and Donnie and I am so thankful that they selected me to photograph their day!!!

So, on her wedding day I was super anxious to see her again.  Her and her bridesmaids began getting ready at the Doubletree in Oakland.  This is a nice hotel and a very common starting ground for brides getting married in that part of the city.  What I was so thankful for that day was the natural lighting.  The lighting in the room was spectacular and I ate it up.  I probably took 500 pictures there alone.  There are opportunities and settings like that for us photographers that we can’t pass up.  ”When the stars align”…like I always say =)

The ceremony ensued at St Paul’s Cathedral, which might be one of my most favorite churches.  Not only is it air-conditioned, but it is beautiful.  There is so much space to move around and so many different angles to shoot from.

Immediately exiting the church, Joe and Shannon found Roc, the Pitt Panther waiting for them.  How cool is that?!?!?  They had Roc for a good part of the afternoon and evening.  What a great addition.

We headed around to the local spots in Oakland and got some killer shots.  I am really, really pleased with what I ended up with.  Joe and Shannon were such troopers and totally on a mission to shoot at all of their favorite locations.  It was amazing, awesome and spectacular.  I was glad that they were determined and focused.

Their reception was held at The University Club.  This is the first time that I had the pleasure of shooting there.  It is a very nice place.  I definitely recommend it.  Roc made an appearance here as well.  One of the highlights from the night was that the Dj service Limelite Productions shot confetti off at the very end of the night.  This was awesome and I think this is a great addition to a reception.

I genuinely appreciate Joe and Shannon for selecting me to photograph their day.  I will never forget it =)

The ceremony went flawless.  The ring bearer and flower girl were too precious not to photograph.  I also especially love the image of the priest expressing his joy as he is sealing the union between Dave and Rhiannon.

Last stop was the reception which was held at the Montour Heights Country Club.  My company and this country club are best friends.  I love working here and I love the people.  This is a fantastic venue with an even more fantastic course.  I definitely urge all upcoming brides to look into this location if they have yet to book a site.

The events of their wedding day were close to home.  We began shooting at St James in Sewickley.  This is the first time I shot here and it was really nice.  Air-conditioned and nice.  The ceremony was really romantic.  Father really took the time to connect with the guests and relay the meaning of what was occurring.

After the ceremony we drove up to The Sewickley Heights Golf Club… again, the first time I had shot here.  This place is a gem.  Not only is it in Sewickley Heights and totally discreet, the ballroom has a lot of character.  The grounds around the club are great.  I decided to take the bridal party to the entrance.  This was one of the few spots that didn’t have direct sunlight.  Also, I really envisioned a great depth of field shot with them.  I love how the party is so in focus and the background quietly fades away.

As I always suggest, after spending some time with the group and I took the bride and groom out alone.  We drove around the course and I was able to get some great shots.  As mentioned above, Jane and Jon are so sweet and fun.  I wish I had more time to shoot them =)

I had a great time, The Sewickley Heights Golf Club is a great venue, and I totally appreciate Jon and Jane selecting me to photograph their wedding day =)

The ceremony was held at St Mary’s of the Mount.  This is a beautiful church on the inside.  When shooting at the church I always try to take some unconventionally shots of the ceremony.  I like to capture things at different angles and express the gorgeous architecture of the building.  I think what I was able to capture turned out great.  I really love the huge pillars and the detail of them.  Afterwards we definitely had to get some pictures on the over-look.  Again, I really like to get some unique shots.  I make it my mission to try and give my client something different than what they’ve ever seen at these locations.

We then headed back on down to Station Square.  We stopped at Bessemer Court for some fountain pictures.  Right when the wedding party lines up the fountain decided to mist them a bit.  The party was super fun and laid back, so they didn’t mind.  Plus, the mist was quite  relief to the heat.  After some shots of the group I took Rob & Kristin around to some spots in the vicinity.  I really really like having the bride and groom to myself for at least 15 minutes.  The sorts of images I am able to capture when it’s just the three of us is unparalleled.  I am really happy with what I got.

When were was all finished up we headed into The Grand Concourse for the reception.  This is a very unique venue.  You’re guests will never get bored of the scenery in this place.

I had a fantastic day with everyone and the shooting was stupendous.  I am very thankful that Rob and Kristin selected me to photograph their wedding day.

With that said, I was able to get away and do some fishing with the fam.  While my parents were inevitably late (haha) I took some pictures of the flowers around the marina.  I am happy with what I got.  I don’t usually take pictures of flowers or landscapes.

The biggest high of the day was that this was the first time my baby boy fished.  He learned how to cast for the very first time using an open-faced rod.  I was too proud of him.  He also caught his very first fish.  I was so happy that I had a camera to document this.  It gave me such feelings of elation to see him sitting at the front of the boat with my dad, his pap.  I could see myself at his age sitting right beside my dad.

It was a wonderful day and I wanted to share with all of my readers.  Below are some of the images that I captured.  Enjoy!!!

After the ceremony we travelled down to Mellon Green.  The sun was hiding behind the clouds, THANKFULLY, and I was able to get some pretty stellar shots.  I tried a lot of new poses and angles.  I am super happy with what I ended up with.  The groomsmen were pretty cooperative and stoked to do the “Reservoir Dogs” walk.  The bridesmaids were delightful and tossed their bouquets like pro’s.  All the groomsmen caught them.  It has been a long time since I’ve seen that.  Kudos to the guys.

The reception was held at The Rivers Club.  This is one of my favorite venues.  I really like how the wedding has the entire floor.  It really makes the whole event feel a lot more personal.  I got some great dancing shots.  The party was awesome.

I am very grateful that Lindsey and Andy selected me to photograph their wedding day.  I had a wonderful time =)

After family pictures at the altar we headed outside to get some shots of this incredible church.  Lee & Anna Kate were awesome.  They were so good with direction.  I was definitely taking advantage of that.  Anna Kate was an expert at striking a pose and really making my job easy =)  I got some shots of the two of them that I am still in awe over.

The bridal party was fun and full of energy.  I had a great time working with them throughout the day!  Anna Kate is a dancer and her and Lee organized a great bridal party entrance in the reception at Shannopin Country Club.  It was so much fun to watch and photograph.  Everyone danced all night long and gave me some amazing shots.

The reception was held at The Berkshire.  One of my favorite DJ’s, Pittsburgh DJ Company, started the party off.  Dean is a wonderful DJ and he is very organized and professional at each event that I have worked at with him.  The remaining of the evening was great and I had so much fun.

We got some great images in the garden across the street.  The weather were overcast so I really lucked out!  The wedding party was great and we had lots of fun.  I appreciate Brian and Stephanie selecting me to photograph their wonderful day!!!

When I arrived at The Murphy’s I was very impressed by how welcomed they immediately made me feel.  It can be quite an anxious introduction as a photographer meeting her subjects… since most people aren’t too crazy about getting their picture taken =)  They were all dressed in white/ light colors.  I was happy that they had coordinated this, since we hadn’t had a chance to speak about apparel.

The weather had been ficklel so we began shooting right away.  The Murphy’s property was gorgeous and I definitely didn’t have a hard time picking a spot– there were several!  The kids were too adorable; Ellis, Sadie and Dottie.  I had a really great time with them.  I love the images below of Dottie.  Like most toddlers, she needed some bribery in the form of M&M’s to perform in front of the lens.  I was so happy to catch a shot of her popping some in her mouth.

It was a great experience for me and I hope that The Murphy’s had fun too!  They were great and I look forward to working with them in the future.

The wedding and reception was held at The Renaissance Hotel Downtown.  It is absolutely gorgeous inside!  We were able to head out to the Clemente Bridge for some photo’s before the rain.  It was also right before the Pirates Game- which didn’t bother me… because I was able to get some nice shots of the people walking by.

Thanks to Chris and Katie for choosing me.  It was such a pleasure to spend time with you!!!

In September 1997 I began attending The University of the Arts in Center City Philadelphia.  The University of the Arts is one of the very few 4 year art universities in the country.  What a different world Philly was.  There is so much energy and culture it is somewhat mesmerizing.  I majored in Photography with a minor in Screen printing.  I graduated with a BFA in Photography in 2001.

After graduation I worked at some prestigious studios in the city.  This taught me a lot about the business aspect of my trade.  While in college my professors spent a lot of time teaching us the fine art aspect, it was working at the professional studios that showed me the way a business needs to be run.

I lived in Philly for a few years after graduating and moved back to my hometown, Pittsburgh.  I started my company Amber Marie Photography in 2004.  Every year it grows and my client base increases.  I am so happy and privlidged to be able to do what I love as a career.  I know that sounds like a cliche… but it’s such a different way of life when you’re truly passionate about what you do.  Trust me, I have had my share at working in the 9 – 5, gray walled office job.  It was eating me alive.

Art is all I have ever known.  Every minute I am awake (and sometimes when I’m dreaming) my brain asks my eyes, “would that make a good picture?”  I am whole heartily dedicated and loyal to my passion of Photography.
