About Amber

I am a 29 year old Professional Photographer.  Ahhhhhhh, it feels so good to say that.  I have been attending art schools in the city of Pittsburgh since I was 10 years old.  I started at Rogers Middle School, then moved on to CAPA (Pittsburgh High school for the Creative and Performing Arts).  After receiving my diploma in Visual Arts I hauled on out of “the Burg” and headed to Philadelphia.

In September 1997 I began attending The University of the Arts in Center City Philadelphia.  The University of the Arts is one of the very few 4 year art universities in the country.  What a different world Philly was.  There is so much energy and culture it is somewhat mesmerizing.  I majored in Photography with a minor in Screen printing.  I graduated with a BFA in Photography in 2001.

After graduation I worked at some prestigious studios in the city.  This taught me a lot about the business aspect of my trade.  While in college my professors spent a lot of time teaching us the fine art aspect, it was working at the professional studios that showed me the way a business needs to be run.

I lived in Philly for a few years after graduating and moved back to my hometown, Pittsburgh.  I started my company Amber Marie Photography in 2004.  Every year it grows and my client base increases.  I am so happy and privlidged to be able to do what I love as a career.  I know that sounds like a cliche… but it’s such a different way of life when you’re truly passionate about what you do.  Trust me, I have had my share at working in the 9 – 5, gray walled office job.  It was eating me alive.

Art is all I have ever known.  Every minute I am awake (and sometimes when I’m dreaming) my brain asks my eyes, “would that make a good picture?”  I am whole heartily dedicated and loyal to my passion of Photography.

So Amber, you met my daughter Carrie Heid and Dan Tapyrik this weekend at Starbucks in Robinson. They had so much to accomplish these four days and were feeling pretty stressed by the time they met with you. When they came home they were so excited! Your ideas, your attitude and your pictures pumped them up. They just couldn’t stop talking about you and your work! I really appreciate that because this is hard work…putting a wedding together in four months and you were just what they needed to get excited again. What a blessing you are! See you in October.
