With engagement and wedding season in full swing throughout this beautiful city of Pittsburgh, it’s time to start thinking about booking your engagement photo session! The summer months are especially lovely around the city, whether you want to head to one of your favorite parks or you prefer a more urban feel – Pittsburgh has it all.
As fun as engagement photos can be for photographers, standing on the other side of the camera can be a little daunting for someone who doesn’t know what to do or how to pose – let me just say, leave that to me! All you need to do is show up with your amazing partner and be ready to have some fun because that’s when the best pictures are captured. With my experience as a wedding photographer in Pittsburgh, here are three of my best tips for taking awesome engagement photos:
- Dress comfortably! Of course, there might be some pictures where you want to dress more formally, but no matter what outfit you choose, make sure you and your partner are comfortable and feel like yourself. If a certain type of clothing makes you feel self-conscious or distracted, don’t wear it because those feelings come across in pictures! Also, if you’ve chosen a brand-new outfit for the engagement photos, be sure to wear in on a ‘test run’ to make sure you really love it.
- Consider hiring a hair and makeup artist – Hiring a makeup artist isn’t as expensive as you might think – and it’s a great option for getting to know your preferred beauty vendor well before the wedding! Having a professional come in with hair and makeup will take another stress off your list when preparing for your Pittsburgh engagement photos – and here’s a tidbit: when you look like a million bucks, you feel like it too, which means extra gorgeous pictures.
- Take the day off – There’s nothing worse than being pressed for time during an engagement photo shoot. To keep the pressure off and allow you to simply relax and have a great time, set aside an entire day to get ready for the engagement shoot. For example, if you’re planning an afternoon or evening shoot, spend day with your partner having a little date session to relax beforehand– this will definitely create a more natural vibe during the engagement shoot.
