Engagement Photography Pittsburgh — Shooting Engagement Pictures in Winter — Pittsburgh Engagement Photographers

Gone are the days when you were expected to place fall and winter engagement plans on hold until the arrival of blossoming spring and golden summer.

As more and more couples make the choice to do away with traditional expectations and go for what suits them best, winter engagements are experiencing a steady rise in popularity. Running a wedding photography business in Pittsburgh (a city which is blessed with an abundant amount of snow) means that I’ve gotten to coordinate quite a few wintertime photo shoots.

Today I will be sharing a few helpful tips on how to ensure you can show up sufficiently prepared to create some extremely special memories during an extremely special season.

  • Choose warm clothing: When planning your winter engagement you will be spending a fair amount of time in freezing weather. Hence dressing up in your most stylish and comfy winter gear of choice is highly recommended. That way you will not only get to take thoroughly stylish photos but will also feel comfortable throughout the photo shoot.

  • Explore your venue of choice beforehand: Exploring your venue before your scheduled photo shoot will ensure you are able to note that perfect spot in your favorite meadow with fir trees and a frozen lake, or on that hilltop with snowy mountaintops in the distance. And doing so will make all the difference when it comes to ensuring you get to capture the full natural splendor of your surroundings.

  • Make contingency plans: If there’s one thing I can attest to in my experience of working as an engagement photographer in Pittsburgh, it’s the absolutely unpredictability of winter. In fact it might be the most capricious season of all – albeit the most beautiful – and I’ve experienced occasions on which a fun photo shoot has been interrupted by an impromptu snow storm.

As a result, I would encourage discussing such an eventuality with your photographer and planning for its occurrence so that the interrupted photo shoot can be completed later during the day if possible or during the week.

Winter might be the most magical season of the year and promise the most enchanting photo shoots. However getting those awesome pictures does require some planning. But thankfully, it’s nothing too complicated and with these pointers which have been gleaned from my experience of winter Pittsburgh engagement photography sessions and which cover the most important basics, you will be able to look forward to an enjoyable experience!
