The traditional huge, white wedding cake with the small bride and groom figurines on top had been a staple on most weddings for many years, but it is now out of the window. As a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, I get to go to lots of wedding and my insatiable sweet tooth has allowed me to try out the trendiest, most exciting wedding cakes out there, and I thought I might share what the spring wedding cake trends are going to be this year!

 

Bring on Pastel 

This beautiful vintage style has turned into an annual trend. With fondant and splashes of colors on top, cakes in pastel shades are making a comeback this year, bringing an elegant and sophisticated vibe to wedding receptions this Spring! My absolute favorite instance of this trend is using nude or powdered rose colors: it might just be the new white.

Nature-Inspired 

Deep blue and earthy greens, this nature inspired look is expected to give you magical forest vibes all year round. But specially this Spring you’ll be seeing more ecological and green aesthetic in the wedding cake department and my wedding photographer fingers can’t wait to snap some pictures of these beauties. And it’s because more and more couples choose these beautiful and unusual shades to set the tone of the most important cake of their lives. Isn’t that just lovely?

Minimalist

For those softies at heart, the classic wedding cake will never fully go out of style with it’s simple decorations and traditional bride and groom figurines. But I predict it’ll come back this year far from the one we’ve seen so much. We’ll be seeing a minimalist approach, with simple, elegant decorations and a beautiful shade of white.

Vintage

So, this a personal favorite of mine, simply because of the sophisticated air it brings to the whole reception. Using timeless pearls and jewels as decorations, vintage cakes take you back to the glorious 20’s and opulent times. This retro vibe will make the night extremely romantic, highlighted to perfection with pearls, bow and lace.

Naked Cakes

This trend came to stay! The exposed, rustic sides and stunning delicate details have brides and grooms swooning over, and can you blame them? The provocative trend is a beautiful, swoon worthy cake, especially with this year’s expected added flare: exotic fruit, spikes, foliage. An irresistible cake to have in your Pittsburgh wedding!
