Choosing your wedding vendors is difficult as it is, with all the planning and researching, asking around for recommendations, lots of social media deep dives and comparing so many price points. But could you imagine having one of those thoroughly researched vendors fall through? Well, I hate to bring the bad energy into your lives, ladies, but this isn’t as uncommon. There are lots of reasons why a vendor may need to cancel, sometimes they double book people and don’t realize until it’s too late, an unforgettable accident, even going out of business. This is not very comforting to you, but I bring it up because it’s important you know the possibilities and that having a last minute cancellation is not the end of the world.
When this happens, we just need to asses the situation, scramble for a few days, but in the end all will be fixed! I promise! As a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, I’ve gone to my fair share of weddings and I’ve gotten the opportunity to see many vendor quick fixes that even though they were last minute, they completely saved the day. Here’s a list of things you should keep in mind if you ever find yourself in this situation:
- First, talk to your partner! You both need to discuss what you’d like to do and how to move forward from this. Then, it’s essential that first thing you do is check the contract! Read that bad boy and figure out if you had wedding insurance or if your contract included a contingency plan for cancellation. If not, check out step 2.
- Talk to your vendor about a referral. They will want to make things right and help out with anything they can, so hooking you up with a college of theirs is a great way to fix this sticky situation. Who knows? You might even get a discount.
- Try to not panic. If the referral is a dead end, then remember that worse case scenario, you’ll have to go a little over budget (I know, I’m sorry!), but it is not the end of the world.
- Use every tool you’ve got. Social media connects us and in this kind of situation, it’s absolutely crucial you take advantage of that. Ask for help, and you might not expect it, the wedding community has heard so many of this cases, the amount of replies will surprise you. You will find a backup vendor for your Pittsburgh wedding in no time.
