When you’re planning a wedding, every detail seems to be unique and unforgettable. From finding the wedding dress of your dreams, to booking the venue to sending out the invitations, there are lots of emotions during the whole journey! Writing your wedding vows is not an exception. It’s such a big part of the ceremony and a truly emotional moment in which the couple expresses all of their love. You may be wondering, how do you even begin writing them?
Well, my experience as a Pittsburgh wedding photographer has allowed me to go to countless weddings and listen to beautiful vows, so I decided to give you my best tips for crafting the perfect wedding vows!
Be yourself
It can sometimes feel like you don’t even know where to start. You may be looking online for wedding vows from other people and getting intimidated, because you don’t know how to do that! But that’s the trick: you don’t have to imitate someone else, you just have to be yourself.
This is the moment for you to tell your significant other that you love them and you’re making a lifelong commitment to them!
Know why you’re writing your vows
It’s always helpful to think about how much your relationship means to you. Your first wedding vow draft can be just you rambling on why you love you partner so much. Answering the following questions can be a good start:
- Why did you decide to get married?
- What difficulties did you have to overcome together?
- What have you achieved together?
- What do you most admire about your partner?
- How has your life improved since you are together?
Some of the things you write them can be key points in your vows!
Make promises
Always think about the future! It’s not enough to remember just retail your love story and your best moments together. Saying “yes, I do”” is, above all, a promise for the future. Try to include in your votes a couple of promises you want to make to your partner, something personal that is important for the both of you.
